Bern to be wild

SC Langnau and SC Bern, the two hockey teams based in Bern, Switzerland, broke the European attendance record for one game yesterday when over 30 000 people (30 076) witnessed their derby at the Stade de Suisse stadium.

Yes, the game was played in a rink built inside the local soccer stadium. Unlike in the Heritage Classic played in Edmonton a couple of years ago (with over 55 000 people in the stands at the Commonwealth Stadium), in Bern, the players didn’t have to worry about getting frost bites.

Gotta love events like this.

The old record was made with the help of a soccer stadium as well, in November 1962 when 23 192 spectators witnessed how local Frölunda beat Stockholm’s Djurgården at Ullevi in Gothenburg, Sweden.
