Why is it that every time you rent a classic movie, like, say, "Rain Man" because it's been 15 years since you last saw it, it's on TV the same night? Alternatively, you talk about a movie with a friend, by chance, and then it's on TV the next day?
Yesterday, I finished my Web & Tech pages for Scanorama, and one of the products featured was this nice little gadget. You know the style, the headlines are often puns or references to pop culture so I went through all kinds of versions of "blue" and "eye."
And I found myself singing Elton John's "Blue Eyes". I remember the song well not because I own every single EJ album there is -- whoops, EJ doesn't seem appropriate with Sir Elton -- because I don't own any. The song is buried deep in my brain because it was the first song on one of the first CDs ever, a promo-CD put out by Philips, back in the mid-1980s. I heard it over and over hanging around (and then working) at my Dad's appliance store.
Weird, isn't it?

"Here, sir, here's a great JVC CD player, top of the line."Anyway, I was humming "Blue Eyes" yesterday while writing the piece, and today, sitting at a cafe, reading a book, I found myself humming it again. Only, this time, there was music, too, and it came from the speakers above me.
"Is that the price?"
"Yes, it is, but ... hold on, let me ... just ... play it for ya..."
"Is that the price?"
"Just wait, this is something you've never heard before..."
...BLUE EYEEEEES
Baby's got blue eyes
Like a deep blue sea
On a blue blue day
Blue eyes
Baby's got blue eyes
When the morning comes
I'll be far away...
And I say
"What's your final price?"
Weird, isn't it?
