Princes of dorkness

FADE IN.

EXT. A small yellow car is driving on a long city street. On one side of the street, there is a river, on the other, some small houses.

INT. Zooming in, we see two young men inside the car.

Baby, I'm a star.

TERRY (SINGING)
Purple rain, pu-huurple ra-haiin…

RISTO
He’s the man, man.

TERRY (STILL SINGING)
Purple rain, pu-huuurple raaa-haaiiin…

RISTO (SINGING, TOO)
…rai-ai-ai-ain…

TERRY
I look just like Prince. With the scarf around me head like this. Right?

RISTO
A little.

TERRY
A little? I’m a spitting image of the man.

RISTO
It’s a great song, though. Where’d you get this?

TERRY
My friend sent me a tape from back home. It was on the B side of that Corey Hart tape.

RISTO
The same guy who sent you those Alpha Flight comics? Sweaty?

TERRY
Same guy.

The two young men sit silently in the car, listening to Prince’s Purple Rain on the radio. Terry taps the steering wheel while driving, until they come to a red light when he starts playing an air guitar.

RISTO
You know, up until now, I never really understood how a guitar could weep.

TERRY
Whaddayamean?

RISTO
Well, you know the Beatles’ song, “While my guitar gently weeps”, right? I’d never really understood what it meant until I heard this song.

TERRY
Huh?

RISTO
I mean, I knew what it means, to weep, that is, but I’ve never really felt it.

The light turns to green, Terry accelerates, tires squealing.

RISTO
But now I really feel it.

TERRY
You’re an idiot.

FADE OUT.
