The end

Now I know what the opposite of "very funny" is. It’s "And then we came to the end," a book I finally managed to finish, which is mostly a great testimony to my perseverance and will power, since it took me two years and three tries to get to the end.

I originally bought the book in late April, 2008, on my way to Quebec City for the hockey World Championship, and got to page 108, all the while waiting for the hilarity to begin. Then distracted by hockey I didn’t read a page on that trip and somehow lost the book.

As luck would have it, I got "And then we came to the end" as a Christmas present last year, and I jumped on it eagerly – having completely forgot everything on those 108 first pages. But then we started to look for houses, and we moved and, well, the book got lost in the shuffle, probably on our bookshelf in the basement. Unfortunately, I don’t think I had made it even close to page 108 that time.

This summer, I saw a familiar book on my mother’s bookshelf. "And then we came to the end". The book that "everybody" said was "very funny". The book that Observer called simply "hilarious". Aha! It was the book I had bought in 2008 and had obviously had with me to Finland on our previous summer vacation.

I can now report that I have come to the end of "And then we came to the end".
