Maldini grounded, misses Champions League match

AC Milan defender Paolo Maldini misses the next Champions League match, a quarterfinal game against Bayern München, for disciplinary reasons, the club announced today.

“I’ve told him once, I’ve told him a thousand times: no playing ball inside,” said Maldini’s mother Antonella. “He’s grounded for a week. No football, no video games, and no mobile phone.”

According to Mrs. Maldini, it’s not the first time her son misses a football match for the same reason.

“Last time he broke my favorite vase, and missed a match. For thirty years, I thought he had learned his lesson, but oh, no, here we go again,” Mrs Maldini said. “And if that wasn’t bad enough, instead of standing up and confessing, he accused his son, even though everybody knows that my Bello Bembino would never do anything like that,” she added.

Milan coach, Carlo Ancelotti, accepts the grounding of Maldini.

“She’s the boss,” he said. “I hope that Paolo learns a lesson now.”

Paolo Maldini was unavailable for comment.
