RP log

On the road again, so to speak. Like Doc Brown said, “Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.” Technically, I’m not on the road right now, as I sit in a cabin on a ferry to Finland.

I did it once, and I’ll do it again. I’ll “live blog” this trip so come back, refresh often, and keep those questions and comments coming.

Shutdown

I did it. I was totally off email (and IM and regular surfing) all day last Friday. I thought it might be more difficult, but by lunch time I was actually thriving on the idea of not checking my email that day.

Instead, I built a snowman and went on an expedition with my son.

What's that's on your nose?

Try it. On Saturday, for example.

The corn effect

Just read in Fast Company that the demand for biofuel makes the price of corn go up. That, in turn, makes the price of tortillas go up, and the poor in Mexico ain’t happy about it.

You can’t please everybody.

Self-esteem

Finns see themselves as a nation with a poor collective self-esteem. If that’s possible. To have a collective self-esteem, I mean.

Anyway, apparently, our self-esteem is fine, thank you very much, and instead, we rank higher than, for example, Japan, in how we feel about ourselves.

Where do we get the ego?

Right or wrong

Just got back from London where we spent a long weekend, taking in the latest trends, the sights, and doing a lot of shopping. Amazing city.

But the left-hand traffic is a killer. Really. Without the huge “LOOK RIGHT” signs painted on the streets, I don’t know how right I would look now.

The funny thing is that many people here talk about that as “the Brits driving on the wrong side of the street.” Left isn’t wrong, right? It’s just … left.
