NHL.com: Puckarinen

Here’s my latest from nhl.com.

Can you fit a puck in your mouth? I think I still can. I haven’t tried it for a few years – like, say, fifteen – but I have eye witnesses who can testify that I definitely could fit a puck in my mouth in high school. And no, nobody forced it down my throat. It was just a friendly little competition.

This is the poster I had on my wall for four years.

Languages

Different languages are fascinating. I’ve only recently learned that the Swiss German, the dialect of German people speak in Switzerland, isn’t really “Swiss German,” but several different dialects (that apparently are so different that a person from Basel has difficulties understanding somebody from Zurich). And that it’s only a spoken language. When the Swiss start writing stuff down, it becomes standard German.

Wow.

And the other day, I saw two hockey guys talking to each other, one in Czech, the other replying in Slovak.

Then I joined them and we spoke English, agreeing that Jagr is an amazing player.

Girl with a heart of gold

Ever listened to a random 80s song in your iPod, and then have a random person hum that same song when you pause the music and put the iPod away?

For a second today, I thought I heard a guy hum this song at the gym when I came there listening to it. He wasn’t – but it got me thinking about the odds. Pretty high, right?

NHL.com: Road games

Here’s my latest from nhl.com.

See ya on Facebook

Looking at them also gave me an idea for an amazing car game for hockey nerds. You know, a game you play on the road. Not an away game. A car game you play while getting to your road game, a game you can play in the car, on your way to see Aunt Greta, with the kids.

Viva Las Vegas

Two years ago today, my girlfriend and I were in Las Vegas. Some people don’t like Vegas, with the Eiffel Towers and fake Venices, but we had a great time. We played a little, shopped a lot, hung by the pool, and saw Cirque du Soleil’s “Love”.

But before we knew it, it was time for my wife and I to fly back home.

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward started their journey here, too

IIHF.com: Hlinka

Had a nice chat with Jaroslav Hlinka the other day.

If I don’t have fun or don’t like to play, hockey becomes just like regular work and you just do it for the money. Money is important, everybody cares about it but I want to have a lot of fun during the season as well.

Nice guy Hlinka.
